The Division

The Governance and Risk (G&R) team is responsible for the development and maintenance of effective risk management and compliance standards at Capsticks. We work closely with both legal and business service divisions through heads of division, directors of service and compliance champions across the firm's five offices to manage quality, embed risk management, compliance and continuous improvement to aid delivery of an excellent client experience.

The Role and Responsibilities

This is a hands-on role for an experienced compliance professional to work as a member of a busy Governance and Risk (G&R) team, which is responsible for the development and maintenance of effective risk management, quality, claims management, information security and compliance standards at Capsticks. The division's work is fast-paced and involves working with all areas of the firm. G&R focus on providing practical solutions to compliance and risk issues through creative thinking and innovation.

The role would suit a lawyer looking for a move into compliance or an experienced compliance professional if they have claims handling experience.

You will report to the Director of Governance & Risk and be part of the team who deal with complaints and claims matters in the team.

The role will include the following:

  • Take part in firmwide risk projects to help identify risk areas and to drive forward improvements;
  • Advise on complex claims matters under the firm's small claims handling authority;
  • Assist with the professional indemnity insurance renewal;
  • Advising on complaints from clients and third parties;
  • Work with the wider team to deliver the departments roadmap and strategy; and
  • Develop and deliver training on G&R issues.

Skills & Experience

Candidates should ideally demonstrate the following:

  • Experience of practicing as a lawyer in litigation or property law or extensive experience as a compliance professional in a law firm;
  • Detailed knowledge of the requirements of the SRA Handbook, and the SRA Code of Conduct;
  • Experience of dealing with complex law firm compliance issues;
  • Experience of claims handling and professional indemnity insurance; and
  • Managing multiple deadlines and stakeholder management, and able to build good relationships across the firm.
