Overview
The Senior Manager, Editorial & Print Systems leads the strategic vision and end-to-end process for print content development. This role oversees a small Editorial and Reversioning team and manages external vendor relationships to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of print textbooks and supporting materials. With a focus on scalable workflows and seamless alignment between digital and print formats, this position plays a key leadership role in shaping how curriculum content moves from manuscript to finished product.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and improve print production processes to enhance efficiency and efficacy.
- Oversee the development of detailed production briefs for vendors based on editorial content.
- Ensure proper reviews of vendor submissions for quality, style, format, and adherence to briefs.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks throughout the print production process and implement proactive solutions.
- Track vendor performance and contribute to vendor selection/evaluation processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define workflows for manuscript to print production: Digital-to-print and print-to-digital transitions.
- Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all print production stages.
- Ensure workflows support version control and content traceability.
- Own the system and protocols for archiving all versions of print content.
- Ensure print assets are correctly cataloged, tracked, and versioned.
- Define standard formats, page dimensions, and specifications for vendors.
- Coordinate the reprint process for core products.
- Coordinate with digital accessibility specialists to ensure print content also meets readability/accessibility standards where applicable.
- Ensure consistency and alignment with other print processes in the company.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- At least 4 years experience in print production, editorial workflows, or publishing operations specific to educational products served in both print and digital formats
- Familiarity with content management systems and archival/version control tools.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, readability), print production software (InDesign, Acrobat, etc.), or XML-based workflows.
- Strong project management and process optimization skills.
- Excellent editorial eye with strong attention to detail.
