Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Marine Underwriter to join our growing underwriting team. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in wet marine underwriting, including both blue water and brown water commercial risks, as well as high-value private pleasure yachts. This is a remote position, offering flexibility while requiring strong collaboration with a distributed team of underwriting professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite a diverse portfolio of wet marine risks, including: Blue water and brown water commercial vessels, private pleasure yachts with limits up to $10,000,000, proportional Protection & Indemnity (P&I) sublimits
- Exercise full carrier underwriting authority with independent decision-making
- Interpret and draft policy wordings for both commercial and private marine risks
- Assess and prioritize recommendations from out-of-water marine surveys
- Ensure compliance with U.S. and international insurance regulations and market practices
- Collaborate remotely with other underwriters and support staff
- Identify and broker risks that fall outside of carrier guidelines to appropriate market partners
- Occasionally broker non-wet marine risks to other relevant markets
- Maintain and leverage strong market relationships and distribution networks

- Drive business development and marketing initiatives by promoting the company’s marine underwriting capabilities to brokers, agents, and prospective clients, leveraging proven relationship-building and communication skills
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of direct wet marine underwriting experience with full carrier authority
- In-depth knowledge of marine insurance wordings, particularly for high-value pleasure crafts and commercial operations
- Familiarity with U.S. and international insurance standards
- Proven ability to evaluate marine survey reports and assess risk condition/urgency
- Experience working independently in a remote, collaborative environment
- Strong brokering capabilities and market navigation skills
- Ability to travel for internal meetings, client meetings, marketing, etc.
- Relevant professional credentials (e.g., AMIM, CPCU, etc.) and personal marine experience preferred
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Must be fluent in English on a professional level
