Overview

Join a high-impact engineering function shaping the next generation of internal developer experience for one of the UK’s leading utilities tech platforms. You’ll be part of a newly formed Platform Engineering team focused on enabling developers through better tooling, automation and golden paths with real autonomy to define how platform engineering is done.

Company Overview

Our client is a fast-growing player in the utilities space, delivering digital solutions that modernise how energy providers operate. They’re investing heavily in Developer Experience, internal tooling, and automation to improve how 250+ engineers build, deploy and operate software across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve self-service tooling to simplify and standardise developer workflows
• Define and maintain golden paths for building, testing, and deploying services
• Partner with development teams to identify pain points and remove friction from the software delivery process

Infrastructure & Automation

• Enhance CI/CD pipelines to support rapid, reliable delivery across multiple teams
• Drive Infrastructure as Code practices (Terraform preferred) and manage scalable AWS environments
• Implement modern observability and monitoring standards to improve service reliability
• Work closely with software and product teams to improve the internal developer platform
• Share best practices and mentor engineers on platform-first principles
• Advocate for automation, continuous improvement, and strong engineering culture

Key Skills & Experience

• Strong Infrastructure as Code background (Terraform ideally, CDK also relevant)
• Proven track record of improving developer experience through tooling, automation or platforms
• Solid understanding of CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)
• Software engineering background - ideally with .NET, Python or Go
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong collaboration mindset working with developers, not just for them
