The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Chartered Senior Engineer to join our established Building Engineering team in London, working on technically challenging projects in the science and healthcare sectors across the UK and internationally.
This role offers the chance to take a leading position within our Public Health & Plumbing team, contributing to the strategic direction and development of the discipline.
Responsibilities
As a Senior / Principal Public Health Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering complex science and healthcare projects, providing technical leadership from early concept design through to construction and handover. You will translate client requirements into clear, actionable strategies, make informed technical decisions, and ensure high‑quality outcomes across all stages of project delivery.
In this role, you will lead the design and technical delivery of public health services on large‑scale, multidisciplinary projects, act as the discipline lead, represent the team in client and architect engagements, and shape innovative, sustainable solutions while maintaining the highest standards of technical excellence.
You will also mentor colleagues, identify skill gaps, contribute to recruitment efforts, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Additionally, you will be involved in long‑term planning, resource forecasting, and enhancing the reputation of the Public Health & Plumbing team both internally and externally.
Qualifications
Degree qualified in engineering or a related discipline, with Chartered Engineer status and extensive experience leading public health engineering on large‑scale, complex science and healthcare projects.
Strong understanding of science & healthcare specific public health systems, including water treatment technologies, water quality management, and medical/laboratory gas systems, with a grasp of relevant legislation, codes, and design guidance.
Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams, mentoring staff, and driving technical strategies and research initiatives, ensuring high performance and project delivery excellence.
Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project scope, programme constraints, and financial success, plus the ability to prepare and present compelling bids to clients.
Excellent communication and report writing skills, a collaborative and creative approach, enthusiasm for sustainable design and digital transformation (including BIM), and a commitment to implementing UN SDGs at project level.
