Title
Senior Process Engineering Consultant
Title: Senior Process Engineering Consultant
Salary range: £52,000 to £67,000 per annum
Location: Bristol or Manchester
Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.
Closing date is 30th June. We encourage early applications, as vacancies may close once we receive sufficient applications.
Frazer-Nash is a values-driven and forward-thinking engineering, systems and technology consultancy. We help organisations deliver innovative engineering and technology solutions to make lives safe, secure, sustainable and affordable, and we specialise in using advanced digital engineering as part of these solutions to help our clients address high-value technical challenges.
We are a growing business, and we are developing and growing our process, fluid and heat transfer engineering services across a range of industries, particularly low carbon energy vectors, nuclear power and the process industry. Our people work across the varied range of Frazer-Nash clients.
What do we look for in a Senior Process Engineering Consultant?
Skills
We are looking for people with a strong theoretical underpinning of process design and fluid flow, alongside consultancy experience and good communication skills, with the ability to:
- Lead the process engineering design of potentially complex fluid systems, including at pilot plant or test rig scale,
- Support the safety assessment of the design, particularly where this involves novel clean energy systems,
- Work collaboratively as part of multi-disciplinary teams developing safe designs for new facilities or modifications for existing plant,
- Meet with clients to understand their needs, and lead the production of proposals for work to address these,
- Mentor, develop and encourage less experienced colleagues in planning and delivering process engineering work, and participating within the process engineering profession.
We empower and support our engineers to deliver a wide range of projects throughout their careers, including:
- Winning work: Developing new business by responding to enquiries and writing bids, and representing Frazer-Nash at client meetings, conferences and seminars.
- Taking the lead: Managing all aspects of technical projects, including client communication, project delivery and other staff involved in the project.
- Developing capability: Strengthening and developing our capabilities, aligning these to what our clients need now and will need in future.
- Variety: Working on a wide range of projects, from short tasks lasting a few weeks to many years of sustained support, developing your skills through a diverse range of interesting and engaging work.
- Teamwork: Working as part of a supportive group, you'll be proactive in developing your skills, reaching out to colleagues for advice and support when needed, and freely sharing your experience with colleagues to support their development.
- Professional recognition: We value chartered engineer and fellow status, and we mentor and support our employees to achieve this.
The successful applicant will meet the following minimum requirements:
- You’ll be an experienced Process Engineer, either Chartered with the IChemE or with equivalent experience.
- You’ll have experience of leading the design of process systems across a range of industries from concept through to detailed design, including the development of process simulations and P&IDs. You’ll have experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team, and managing the complex interfaces associated with this.
- You’ll have a good understanding of the underpinning fluid flow and heat transfer behaviour that drives the selection and sizing of components, and the ability to apply this to unusual fluids and operating conditions.
- You’ll have experience of presenting designs at HAZOPs and design reviews, and have a good understanding of the Functional Safety Lifecycle, and how HAZOP and LOPA contribute to this.
- You’ll have some experience of working with stakeholders to plan work and agree budgets, and some experience of managing packages of work to time, quality and cost.
- You’ll be able to use your communication skills to engage effectively with project stakeholders internally and externally, both verbally and through crisp and focused writing.
- Qualified Functional Safety Professional/Engineer (FSProf/FSEng).
- Experience in Consequence Modelling either using tools like Phast or EFFECTS or via hand calculations.
- Experience in CFD or dynamic modelling.
- A relevant post-graduate degree.
