About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Production Manager to oversee all stages of production on Veritasium, from scripting to shooting through editing and final publishing. This key role supports the editorial team in producing high-quality, visually engaging science and engineering documentaries for YouTube. You will help shape the future of our production process and content delivery as we strive to make Veritasium the most trusted and engaging science and engineering channel on the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and run the production schedule, setting realistic goals and ensuring deadlines are met across each video produced at all key stages
- Identify and mitigate potential bottlenecks in the production pipeline
- Collaborate with editorial leads to shape and continuously improve production workflows
- Source, contract, and coordinate with film crews globally, often on short notice, to work on Veritasium shoots
- Ensure health and safety standards are met and risk assessments are completed; guide junior team members in this area; liaise with insurance to ensure shoots are insured
- Oversee animation production with head of animation, including deadlines, software management, and briefing processes
- Liaise with cross-functional partners on schedule
- Manage post-production workflows, including editing, using Adobe Premiere Pro, Lucid Link, and MAM systems like Iconik
- Create budgets to forecast more expensive shoots when required, for review by senior management
- Conduct cost analysis of current spends and improve budgeting as the role expands
- Work with accounts and head of production to run and improve finance systems (invoicing, expenses, budget management)
- Process invoices ensuring goods and services are delivered as agreed
- Use Slack, Monday.com, and Google Sheets to manage remote workflows and communications
- Embrace and optimize remote team management practices
- Foster a culture of editorial excellence, risk-taking, and continuous improvement in production processes
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5–7 years experience as a production manager at a major digital agency or production company working on multi-episodic documentary series
- Demonstrated experience in managing multi-episode documentary production in digital and TV spaces
- Proven ability to design and implement production processes around content creation
- Excellent organizational skills
- Line manages a Production Coordinator and a Production Secretary
- Working knowledge of health and safety protocols in film and TV production
- Experience with animation production processes and tools
- Familiarity with post-production management and digital asset management
- Experience with compliance and fair dealing guidelines
- Experience working with remote teams and willingness to grow in this area
- Ability to manage and delegate appropriate tasks to a production team
- Strong communication skills, calm under pressure, and proactive problem-solving
- Enthusiasm for being part of a dynamic, ambitious team
- Passion for documentaries
- Experience working in YouTube digital-first or TV production environments
