Join our Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick team as a Senior Project Engineer at Sellafield, Seascale and you’ll deliver complex work that really matters to our business, and the world around you. Assist the Construction Manager and Engineering Manager with the planning and daily execution of the construction project. Responsible for maintaining certain aspects of the project schedule as assigned by the Project Manager, by managing the process of submittal approvals, coordinating the timely delivery of materials, maintaining schedules and budgets. To support and promote a collaborative working environment which ensures client, internal and other stakeholders’ requirements are effectively managed, and employees feel motivated and engaged to deliver.

What you\'ll be doing

  • Ensure that packages are delivered to programme, budget, safety and quality expectations/standards.
  • Ensure packages comply with good design practice and relevant technical group standards.
  • Ensure that the package is executed with minimum rework.
  • Support the Senior Project Manager/Construction Manager to manage commercial and business risks to achieve targets.
  • Understand the relevant NEC 4/4 ECC commercial terms and conditions for your project.
  • Support the Senior Project Manager/ Construction Manager to proactively manage the customer relationship during delivery, including change and decision making to effectively manage expectations.
  • Support the Senior Project Manager / Construction Manager in leadership of Zero Harm and drive for continuous improvement across SHEQ.
  • Ensure accurate and complete records are kept in accordance with the mechanical control sheet, including RFIs, FCDs, WPPs, MCRs, ITPs, Record Drawings and other project documentation.
  • Communications/deliverables: maintain the document control sheet progressively and ensure relevant team members are aware of potential impacts.
  • Update communication trackers and self-generated registers as applicable.
  • Management of Supervisors & squads of E&I operatives.
  • Management of Industrial Relations in line with the NAECI Working Rule Agreement.
  • Plan and organise plant, access, labour and materials in accordance with interfaces and procurement activity relevant to a package.
  • Show clear and visible leadership and display the right leadership behaviours.
  • Support the project team to be successful by promoting positive communication, active listening and encouragement.
  • Support the successful implementation of the Gated Business Lifecycle at every opportunity.
  • Concisely produce/review the WPP and ITP for a particular activity, ensuring quality assurance mechanisms are contextualised four weeks prior to works start.
  • Monitor performance of the supply chain against planned activities and escalate as required.
  • Draft site instructions for review and issue by the Project Management team with detailed descriptions of works, location, programme impact, cost impact and client change references.
  • Support the QA function by completing tours and quality check-sheets.

Who we\'re looking for

  • Manage time and complete daily diaries on BIM 360 Field, support the EPPR process (if/as applicable) and contribute to other reporting formats.
  • Identify best practice, areas for improvement and areas of concern.
  • Assist and implement other requirements or duties as requested by line management.
  • Become familiar with BB policy/procedure and workflows and contract details for safe and timely execution. Proficiency in BIM360, Sharepoint and Ffenics is expected.
  • Implementation of Short Interval Control including running daily section review meetings and producing a weekly section report via BIM 360.
  • Live the Balfour Beatty Values and maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm.
  • Support the delivery of Balfour Beatty’s Sustainability activities.
  • Complete safety observation cards; target 1 per week, recorded on BB APP.
  • Personal Development Reviews of direct reports (Supervisors).

The Following Experience/Qualifications Are Essential

  • Experience delivering major projects within the nuclear industry or other highly regulated industries where safety and quality are paramount.
  • HNC, or equivalent, in Electrical.
  • APM qualification is beneficial.
  • SMSTS / IOSH qualified.
  • Previous experience of engineering works in a nuclear environment.
  • Previous experience of managing the installation of environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Ability to obtain the required security clearances.
  • High levels of integrity and a constant focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements.
  • Strong People Management skills in a highly unionised environment.
  • Previous experience as Electrical Senior Authorised Person/Authorised Person (Desirable).
  • Ability to work across conflicting interest groups to develop solutions to complex operational and commercial problems.
  • Knowledge of QA Plans, Inspection Checklists, Lifetime Record compilation.
  • Experience in stakeholder management and management of subcontractors.
