Senior Software Engineer – Gen AI Team at Butternut Box | B Corp

We are building generative AI solutions that enhance daily life for dog owners. The role is for a senior engineer who will lead the AI skunkworks effort, ship impactful products quickly, and partner closely with product, engineering, and design teams.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to ship AI‑powered tools that solve real customer problems.
  • Ship early prototypes, iterate based on feedback, and maintain a rapid MVP mindset.
  • Collaborate daily with the Director of Engineering and Head of Product to shape the AI roadmap and technical strategy.
  • Deploy cutting‑edge LLMs (OpenAI, Claude, Llama, etc.) at scale and integrate them into Ruby on Rails, React, GraphQL, and Typescript services.
  • Own product quality, testing, documentation, and resilience while balancing speed and impact.
  • Mentor teammates, share knowledge, and embody the company’s #DedicatedandDetermined value.

Qualifications

  • Strong customer‑focused, product‑mindset; skilled at prioritizing outcomes over everything else.
  • Experience building software that ships quickly, iterates rapidly, and gathers user‑centric feedback.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, ideation stages, and early‑stage experimentation.
  • Pragmatic technical debt management: balance resilience, testing, documentation, and pragmatic trade‑offs.
  • Passion for startups, small teams, and dog‑food industry.
  • Obsessed with dogs and excited about AI innovation.

Hiring Process

  • Initial 45‑minute introductory call with the recruiter.
  • Take‑home technical task delivered via email.
  • 60‑minute technical interview where you run through your task and discuss real examples.
  • 75‑minute final interview in West London with peers and senior leadership.
