Overview
Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to drive the scaling and development of our code and ensure a seamless Quantum Computing experience both via the cloud and direct access via data centres. You will be a seasoned Software Engineer who thrives on solving problems and driving projects forward, maintaining, debugging and improving legacy code while developing innovative solutions from the ground up. You will help embed best practices and a strong mindset across the team.
Responsibilities
- Leading the design, build, testing and implementation of software solutions to support our mission of making Quantum Computing accessible.
- Identifying opportunities to improve and apply best practice, balancing risks against progress in projects.
- Owning technical problems and the development lifecycle to solve these challenges through to final product deployment and beyond.
- Developing, debugging and maintaining code and ensuring thorough testing of both your own and other team members’ work.
- Evaluating the expected and actual outcomes of your team’s projects to ensure the delivered work is fit for purpose.
- Mentoring and sharing knowledge to foster growth and development within the team.
Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you’ll need a solid grasp of good coding practices, especially in Python, along with a strong understanding of data structures, architecture, and design principles. It’s also advantageous to be comfortable in other languages like Java, C++, or similar. Your foundation in computer science can come from a degree, hands-on experience, or self-study. You should be confident in designing complex systems end-to-end, from gathering requirements through QA, deployment, and ongoing maintenance, ideally within an agile environment. We value mentoring and team growth, so you should enjoy sharing knowledge to help less experienced colleagues develop.
