Senior Software Engineer

Circa £60,000 annually

Hybrid/Remote | Full-time

We're partnering with one of the world's largest food service and support services companies, operating internationally and serving everything from corporate cafeterias to sports stadiums.

This role sits within their procurement solutions team in Birmingham - the tech hub powering billions in purchasing decisions.

Why this role?

You’ll be part of a major technical transformation. The team is re‑engineering their large‑scale e‑procurement system from legacy ColdFusion onto Neptune - a modern low‑code/no‑code platform - as part of an ambitious "Back of House" programme.

This is a dual‑learning opportunity. You’ll maintain business‑critical systems while building expertise in next‑generation platform technology, positioning yourself at the forefront of their digital evolution.

The bigger picture:

The long‑term vision? Transitioning from external agency reliance to a self‑sufficient internal team that owns and drives the Neptune platform. You’ll be instrumental in this knowledge transfer and capability building - a genuine chance to shape the future tech stack of a global operation.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven software engineering experience (5+ years)
  • Strong server‑side skills - ColdFusion, PHP, Java or similar
  • Experience with relational databases (MySQL, MS SQL)
  • Excellent stakeholder communication – you’ll work across technical and business teams

Nice to have:

What we’re offering:

  • Competitive salary package
  • Learn cutting‑edge LCNC platform technology (Neptune) with genuine strategic influence
  • Be central to a multi‑year digital transformation programme
  • Hands‑on knowledge transfer from external specialists
  • Work for a global industry leader with scale and stability
  • Report directly to the Head of Development
  • Hybrid in Birmingham or remote options available
  • Real ownership over platform transition and team capability building

This isn’t your typical maintenance role. You’ll bridge two worlds – keeping critical systems running while pioneering the technology that replaces them. It’s challenging, yes, but it’s also the kind of opportunity that defines a career chapter.

You’ll have genuine influence over how a global organisation modernises its technology, with the autonomy to build expertise that’s increasingly valuable in today’s market.

If you’re a versatile software engineer who thrives on learning new technologies, enjoys solving complex problems, and wants to be part of something transformational rather than transactional – this one’s for you.
