This is an exciting time to join Wealden District Council. We are a shared legal service supporting Wealden and Rother District Councils. Our Legal Team provides professional legal advice, support, and assistance to internal clients.
We are looking for an experienced qualified lawyer to join our supportive team. If you are ambitious, highly motivated, and eager to maximize your potential, we would love to hear from you.
You will manage your own caseload and collaborate with the Team Leader: Commercial on major projects and transactions. Experience within local government is desirable but not essential.
You should be team-oriented, able to work independently, possess strong commercial acumen, and have excellent communication skills.

What will you be doing?
- Providing legal advice to Wealden and Rother District Councils on corporate and commercial matters.
- Ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations.
- Collaborating with other lawyers and internal clients to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Managing a varied caseload across multiple service areas.
What do you need?
- Significant experience in contracts and commercial law.
- Qualified solicitor, barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives with a current practising certificate.
- Proven ability to provide clear legal advice orally and in writing.
- High standards of client care and team collaboration skills.
