Senior Structural Engineer - Structural Steel

Location: Derby or Manchester

Salary: £44,000 - £55,000 (depending on experience) + car allowance

We are collaborating with an award-winning specialist Subcontractor/Fabricator, part of a larger national group, seeking a Senior Structural Engineer for their expanding design team. The role involves designing and delivering a specialist building system, working on prestigious projects with strong sustainability credentials.

Responsibilities:

1. Project management and leading structural design from concept to detailed design, including connections and temporary works, for tenders and live contracts.
2. Attending design meetings as the lead technical representative.
3. Participating in R&D activities with colleagues and specialists.
4. Developing design procedures.
5. Contributing to business development by providing and presenting specialist engineering advice.
6. Reviewing designs from your team and outsourced engineers.
7. Contributing to commercial management in collaboration with Contracts and Commercial teams.

Candidate Requirements:

• Chartered Engineer or close to achieving Chartered status with IStructE or ICE.
• Significant experience in steel frame design on commercial, industrial, and retail projects, including portal frames, from concept to detailed design.
• Experience as a senior structural engineer.
• Good knowledge of Design Codes (BS5950, EC-3).
• Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting technical information clearly.
• Ability to manage engineering teams with enthusiasm and a proactive approach.
• Skilled in planning project resources and managing deadlines.
• Proficiency in structural analytical and design software (e.g., TEDDS, Tekla Building Designer, MasterSeries, Dlubal RFEM, IdeaStatica).
• Leadership potential and interest in mentoring junior colleagues.
