We are looking for a Senior R&D Tax Specialist with a strong software or technical background to join a collaborative, client-focused team at a fast-growing UK R&D tax consultancy.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll work directly with software founders, CTOs, and CEOs, helping them maximise their R&D tax relief while translating complex technical projects into clear, actionable insights.
The Role:
Reporting to the R&D Tax Manager, you’ll take ownership of client engagements for innovative software and technology companies. This is a highly client-facing role requiring both deep R&D tax knowledge and technical fluency.
You will assess projects for eligibility, explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences, and work closely with colleagues in a supportive, knowledge-sharing environment.
Senior R&D Tax Specialist Responsibilities:
- Lead client engagements for software and technology businesses, including startups and scale-ups
- Analyse technical projects to identify claimable R&D activities
- Translate complex technical work into clear guidance for non-technical stakeholders
- Collaborate with colleagues to share knowledge and improve processes
- Ensure compliance with the UK R&D Tax Incentive Scheme
- Support the wider team in technical reviews, claims preparation, and client reporting

Senior R&D Tax Specialist Requirements:
- 4+ years’ experience in R&D tax consultancy
- Degree or equivalent in a software-related field (Computer Science, Software Engineering, DevOps, AI/ML, Front/Back/Full Stack Development)
- Strong technical proficiency in modern programming languages or demonstrable software engineering experience
- Excellent communication skills – able to explain technical topics to non-technical clients
- Collaborative, team-oriented, and comfortable working autonomously
- Experience in a client-facing, fast-paced environment
