This is a pivotal position for a technically skilled and commercially aware solar designer who is passionate about sustainable energy. You'll lead the technical design process across residential and commercial solar PV projects from initial desktop and on-site surveys through system and electrical design to supporting business development and project delivery teams with your expertise.

You’ll be expected to take ownership of system performance and compliance with key regulations (MCS, G99, G100) and ensure the use of the most efficient and effective technologies. Your insight will also help shape processes and improve customer service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Design and specification of solar PV systems (roof and ground-mounted) for residential and commercial projects

Work with CAD and manufacturer tools to develop robust structural mounting solutions

Liaise with project and sales teams to provide technical input into client proposals

Conduct system sizing using energy profiles and data analytics

Ensure all electrical design elements comply with UK regulations and DNO requirements

Manage grid connection submissions and compliance processes (SmartConnect, Connect Direct)

Perform system performance analysis and troubleshooting with manufacturers where required

Maintain MCS compliance and documentation

Utilise design and layout tools to generate accurate, compliant designs

Support internal teams and respond to technical queries from clients and stakeholders

Provide input into process improvements and design innovation

What You’ll Bring

In-depth knowledge of solar PV systems, components, and integration techniques

Solid understanding of roof structures and framing systems

Familiarity with G99, G100, MCS, and relevant UK standards

Competency in electrical design, including protections and grid connectivity

Proficient in CAD and solar design software (e.g., PV*Sol, PVsyst)

Analytical mindset with attention to technical accuracy and compliance

Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences

Comfortable with data analysis, Excel, and CRM systems

Self-motivated with a proactive and problem-solving mindset
