The opportunity: We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented individual to join our Employment Team, working predominantly within our education sector. Hybrid/remote working is available and we are open to flexible arrangements. Although the focus is the education sector (state schools and FE colleges), the candidate should be willing to work across all firm sectors (business, charity, social enterprise).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide employment advice and assistance to the firm’s clients and prospective clients
  • Manage an individual Employment Tribunal caseload (with supervision where appropriate)
  • Reviewing and drafting contracts of employment
  • Advise on disciplinary and grievance issues and procedures
  • Advise on TUPE issues
  • Prepare bespoke contracts and advise on implications (e.g., secondment and consultancy agreements)
  • Advise on potential discrimination issues (disability, age, religious belief and sex)
  • Assist clients in negotiations regarding termination and settlement agreements
  • Understand potential pension implications
  • Prepare cases for Tribunal hearings, including advocacy prior to final hearing
  • Attend to clients in the office or elsewhere as needed
  • Work collaboratively within the team and broader Firm
  • Communicate promptly and effectively with colleagues and clients
  • Maintain continuing professional development and knowledge in employment law
  • Actively market the Employment Law team to develop the firm’s client base
  • Meet clients at their premises or at offices as part of ongoing client contact
  • Provide legal support to HR Consultants in London, Bath, Leeds and Birmingham offices

Requirements

Essential

  • A qualified Solicitor with experience running own Employment Tribunal caseload
  • A strong commitment to career development and continuing learning
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to prioritise workload
  • Attention to detail
  • IT literacy including Office 2010

Desirable

  • Experience in a similar role; experience in the education sector is desirable but not essential
