Solution Architect – PA Consulting

PA Consulting is looking for a Solution Architect to join our Digital & Data team in Manchester. The role works closely with clients across seven sectors, delivering scalable, high‑performance applications and driving enterprise architecture transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and own key architecture artefacts (High‑Level Design, Technical Options Paper, Design Decision Record).
  • Lead technology and design discussions, establishing architectural guardrails and driving best practices across multiple client engagements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and delivery teams, often taking a senior SME role to influence vision, scope and delivery.
  • Support senior leaders in cost estimation, detailed planning and business case development.
  • Champion agile, cross‑functional teamwork and continuous improvement.

Essential Qualifications

  • Hands‑on background in Software Engineering with proven experience leading engineering teams to deliver applications and services.
  • Deep understanding of architecture and delivery methodologies, with competence across architectural domains (Business, Data, Application, Technology, Security). Specialisation in at least one domain is required.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving and clear communication.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachmann, MODAF).
  • Agile delivery experience – SAFe, Scrum, Kanban.
  • Professional certifications in relevant methodologies or cloud technologies are advantageous.

Assessment Process

  • Initial video call with a Tech Recruiter to discuss the role.
  • Round 1 – competency or technical interview (60 min).
  • Round 2 – competency or technical interview, whichever did not occur in Round 1 (60 min).
  • Final round – meeting with a PA leader to discuss client‑centricity (45 min).
