Developer Advocate, Java/Spring AI

Pay rate: Up to £350.00 per day (experience dependent)

Overview

As a Developer Advocate focused on Java and Spring AI, you will champion the success of Java/Spring AI developers by creating sample applications, reference demos, and educational content that solve real developer challenges. You’ll grow the community through talks, workshops, online engagement, and by managing GitHub assets for visibility, ease of use, and contributions.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Spring Boot AI microservices demos, integration samples, and quickstarts; uphold code quality and automated tests.
• Curate GitHub repositories, design CI workflows, and manage contributor guidelines; address issues and PRs promptly.
• Author tutorials and how-to guides; deliver engaging conference talks, community meetups, and webinars; produce demo videos.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to refine demos for launches and major releases; gather and advocate for community feedback in product roadmaps.
• Proactively drive improvements for the Java/Spring developer experience.

Demo and Sample Creation

• Design, develop, and document sample applications and microservices projects using Java and Spring Boot.
• Implement automated tests and integration setups for reliability and reproducibility.

Repository and Community Management

• Maintain, organize, and improve discoverability of GitHub repositories; establish and update contributor guidelines, documentation, and CI workflows.
• Respond quickly and supportively to community issues, pull requests, and questions.

Content Development and Enablement

• Write clear tutorials, how-to guides, and code walkthroughs aligned with best practices.
• Script, record, and edit short demo or explainer videos.
• Design and deliver live sessions, webinars, workshops, and conference talks (in-person or virtual).

Community Growth and Engagement

• Build a strong following on relevant forums, social media, and meetups through timely, authentic engagement.
• Channel actionable feedback from the community into product/engineering teams for continuous improvement.

Advocacy and Feedback

• Stay current on Spring ecosystem updates and trends; create relevant materials to educate and inspire users.
• Identify common developer pain points, propose solutions, and advocate for necessary product or documentation changes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Able to build secure and enterprise grade AI-enabled applications and clearly explain design and trade-offs.
• Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and ability to clearly explain technical concepts.
• Strong proficiency with Java and Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring Data, etc.).
• Preferred: experience with cloud platforms or relational databases; knowledge of containerization and CI/CD pipelines; basic familiarity with video editing tools.
• Ideally an active Open Source contributor.
