Specialty Doctor in General Ophthalmology

The Ophthalmology Department at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is currently looking for a Specialty Doctor in General Ophthalmology to support the acute and general ophthalmology services. The post holder will be expected to work a total of 10 PAs a week to include UBOC (urgent Booked Ophthalmology Clinic), general clinics and speciality clinics.

The post is based in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust which comprises of 3 main sites, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Wycombe General Hospital and Amersham General Hospital. We also run services from peripheral sites including Buckingham Community Hospital.

The postholders' duties will be predominantly at Stoke Mandeville Hospital with occasion requirements at other sites as required.

Main duties of the job

  • General ophthalmology responsibilities
  • Outpatient clinics at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, including predominantly General and Acute Eye Casualty
  • Specialist interest clinic/theatre lists (if desired and depending on availability)
  • Support for Nurses, Support and Admin staff
  • Other care of inpatients or outpatients
  • Clinical and other administration as required by agreement
  • Teaching and training of Junior staff and undergraduates (Medical Students)
  • Participation in Clinical Governance

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years ophthalmic training/experience
  • Recognised sub-speciality experience
  • Significant years ophthalmic training/experience

Experience

  • General training in ophthalmic surgery / clinics / laser
  • Ability to make good decisions at speciality doctor level
  • Recognised Fellowship training
