Job Title: Submarine Safety Engineering Consultant
Contract Type: Permanent
Location: UK - London (flexibility in location where applicable). This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. Travel to customer sites or to attend meetings will be required.

Responsibilities
Provide technical safety support and subject matter advice to submarine and underwater system projects, directly supporting the UK submarine community. Ensure safety projects are delivered to schedule, quality and budget, and comply with relevant UK legislation, standards, and policies. Contribute to the development and management of hazard logs, support HAZID and hazard review meetings, and author safety assessment/safety case reports, including justification of ALARP status of the product.
Support the delivery of safety projects and provide knowledge on submarine operations and equipment maintenance procedures as required by the role.
About You / Qualifications
This role would suit an ex-Submariner looking to progress into a career in safety engineering. You will ideally have experience of the operation and/or maintenance of Royal Navy submarines and equipment, and familiarity with relevant technical documentation and safety requirements.
Additionally, you may have:
- Familiarity with safety management for Nuclear Facilities and related licensing arrangements;
- Experience with UK MOD safety approaches (e.g., Defence Safety Authority regulations, Defence Nuclear Safety Regulations, Naval Authority Certification, Submarine Delivery Agency Safety Policy and management systems);
- Experience developing and managing hazard logs, facilitating HAZID and hazard review meetings, and producing safety assessment/safety case reports with ALARP justification;
- Strong communication skills and ability to present professionally to clients;
- Proactive approach to professional accreditation (e.g., IEng or CEng). We support professional qualifications and can provide training to achieve them if not already held.
- Eligibility to hold UK Security Clearance at SC level is required and will be subject to security checks.
