Technical Author

We are recruiting for a Technical Author on contract to work for a leading Defence organisation. The role is predominantly remote, with only 2-4 days per month required in their Stevenage offices.
Responsibilities:
- Write technical documentation in SGML, XML, and traditional formats for the company's products, in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Enable safe and effective operation and repair of equipment.
- Cover the entire product lifecycle, including design, development, and in-service support.
Skillset/Experience required:
- Experience in producing technical documentation with knowledge of MoD standards ASD S1000D and AESP.
- Qualified to HND/HNC or equivalent in an engineering-related subject, or ex-forces senior technician.
- Knowledge of SGML editing software (e.g., Arbortext Epic), CSDB for S1000D, and desktop publishing systems.
- Effective communication skills with ILS Managers and Design Engineers.
- Ability to work independently, managing packages of work, scheduling, and reporting to meet expectations.
Additional qualifications include a background in Electrical or Mechanical engineering, demonstrated experience with end-to-end technical documentation production, and experience in maintenance or fault-finding is advantageous but not essential. Experience in Defence, Aerospace, Automotive, or Heavy Industry sectors is preferred. Familiarity with S1000D compliance, Data Module Format, STE, and XML/SGML editing software such as Arbortext or FrameMaker is also desirable.
The role involves interaction with multiple engineering departments – ILS, LSA, Commercial, etc.
