Position: Technical Delivery Manager
The Technical Delivery Manager is responsible for overseeing and guiding the technical delivery of large, complex projects and programs, ensuring they support the organisation’s business goals and IT strategy. This role requires strong project management skills underpinned by solid technical expertise, including an understanding of end-to-end software development, coding practices (such as tools, languages, libraries, and integrations), various testing methods, and a good grasp of cloud infrastructure and concepts. The Technical Delivery Manager is responsible for planning, managing, tracking, and reporting on project progress, while also effectively managing stakeholders and vendor engagements.
This position blends leadership and technical knowledge with a focus on delivering results on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. The Technical Delivery Manager also acts as a central coordinator, connecting development teams, quality assurance, product owners, business analysts, architects, DevOps teams, and support—to make sure technical solutions are delivered efficiently and risks are identified and addressed early.
This role involves working directly with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, including Business and IT executives, vendors and BDO Firm partners. The aim is to consistently deliver high-quality results that are strategically aligned to business and IT goals.
Key accountabilities
Technical Delivery Leadership
- Lead end-to-end delivery of major technical projects and programs, ensuring all work aligns with organisational objectives and strategies.
- Manage project resources, scope, timelines, and budgets to reach quality and performance targets.
- Mentoring and guiding technical delivery teams to comply with technical standards, frameworks, and best practices in governance.
- Maintaining thorough, high-quality technical documentation for all programs and projects.
- Support the Technical Portfolio Manager in strategic planning aligned with business requirements.
Team Coordination and Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including development, QA, product ownership, and the Project Management Office (PMO)—to ensure seamless technical delivery.
- Serve as a liaison between technical teams, senior leaders, and business stakeholders to align technical solutions with business requirements.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation within technical teams.
- Manage vendor relationships to support successful project outcomes.
Risk Management and Problem-Solving
- Identify and mitigate technical risks and challenges proactively, ensuring continuity and success of projects, and escalate issues promptly when necessary.
- Address bottlenecks and dependencies across teams efficiently to maintain delivery momentum.
- Escalate significant risks or issues to senior leadership with actionable recommendations and timely updates.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Track and monitor program, project, and budget progress using established metrics, providing regular updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of project documentation, including plans, risk registers, budget tracking, and status reports.
- Analyse project outcomes to identify lessons learned and promote continuous improvement opportunities.
- Prepare and deliver timely reporting for various forums and stakeholders such as quarterly reports and IITC meetings.
Process Improvement and Innovation
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency, quality, and scalability in technical delivery.
- Remain abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to inform and enhance technical strategies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Technology, or a related field;
- Masters in a relevant field advantageous.
- 7+ years of experience in technical project or delivery management, with a strong focus on development, infrastructure, or related domains, and people management
- Proven track record of delivering large scale, complex technical projects and products in a cross-functional, collaborative environment.
Skills and capabilities
- Demonstrates exceptional leadership, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and integrity, with experience of driving the best from teams located in multiple locations and time zones.
- Proven ability to effectively engage with business stakeholders to clarify and understand their business requirements and manage competing priorities.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects and project coordinators.
- Experience working with multiple third-party vendors and partners to deliver complex information technology projects.
- Understanding of systems, development methodologies and architecture.
- Experience transitioning technology solutions into operational environments.
- Ability to establish and adhere to strict project timeframes.
- Demonstrate the ability to balance priorities among competing needs whilst providing the highest level of value to BDO.
- Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
- Financial literacy to forecast and manage project budgets.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence and drive other team members, and to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
