About the role

Join the British Museum in this unique new role supporting a new programme of masterplan and critical projects while supporting the museum to welcome approximately 6 million visitors annually. This is a crucial role, involving working closely with senior stakeholders, supply-chain partners, and the support teams across the museum.

As Technical Services Manager, you will be responsible for the maintenance, compliance, and development of our historic estate. You’ll oversee a diverse portfolio of buildings and landscapes, ensuring they are safe, sustainable, and fit for purpose—while respecting their cultural and architectural significance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all technical services including M&E systems, building fabric, and environmental controls.
  • Ensure statutory compliance and best practice in conservation-sensitive maintenance.
  • Manage contracts, budgets, and service providers to deliver efficient and effective operations.
  • Collaborate with curators, conservation teams, and external stakeholders to support exhibitions, events, and capital projects.
  • Champion sustainability and energy efficiency across the site.

About You

  • Proven experience in facilities or technical services management, ideally within a heritage, museum, or cultural setting.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, compliance, and project management.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • A passion for heritage and a commitment to preserving it for future generations.
