Introduction

Hawthorn Photonics, Inc. is a newly formed US holding company. Our portfolio currently includes Covesion Ltd. in Southampton, UK, AdvR Inc. in Bozeman Montana USA and Radiantis in Barcelona Spain. Our companies are at the forefront of photonics technology in markets including Defence, Scientific Instrumentation, and Aerospace and have a unique position in Quantum applications. Hawthorn Photonics needs to combine 3 company sales teams and build a group sales team and integrate the existing sales processes of the subsidiary companies in a global setting.

Compensation: Market leading salary plus bonus

Location: Role can be hybrid but at least 50% of time will be based at one of the company’s facilities

Hours: 40 hours per week excluding travel time

Main Duties

The role holder will be working in a technology rich environment delivering solutions for Government, OEM, and Academic customers. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the Sales team and spearhead our go-to-market strategy, driving revenue growth by aligning advanced technical solutions with customer needs. You will collaborate closely with scientific, engineering, and marketing teams to develop and execute sales plans that expand market share and strengthen customer relationships. The role holder will also focus on business change, integrating the sales teams and systems of the three subsidiary companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Group CEO to develop and implement growth strategies for the company.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing technical sales team, setting clear goals and performance metrics.
  • Analyse sales data and market trends to forecast revenue, identify risks, and adapt strategies when opportunities arise.
  • Change management and integration of existing sales team & systems.
  • Prompt generation of monthly management reports and KPIs.
  • Negotiate contract terms, pricing structures, and service agreements to maximize profitability.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and customer forums.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills, with a passion for developing talent.
  • Experience of change management in commercial teams.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities, both written and verbal.
  • 10+ years of B2B and or B2G sales experience in technology solutions, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
  • The ability to develop marketing strategies that lead to high growth.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding multimillion-dollar sales targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical specifications into compelling business value propositions.
  • Aptitude and the ability to quickly learn and articulate new technologies.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, and closing skills.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and sales analytics tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in Optics or a related discipline.
  • Clean driving licence and own transport.
  • Experience in winning US, UK or European Defence and or Government funded related development programs.
  • Previous experience of selling frequency conversion or phase modulator components.
  • Worked with R&D in an optics setting.
  • Second language – German, French, Spanish or Chinese preferred.
