Overview
We are seeking Crime Analysts to join the EA’s National Environmental Crime Unit, supporting the Water Industry Intelligence Team. Water Industry offending is a high-profile Strategic Priority for the EA, attracting attention from the public, media, national and international stakeholders. The main purpose of the Crime Analyst is to provide expertise through the development and use of analytical products to assist decision making at a strategic, tactical and operational level.
Responsibilities
- Provide analytical support to influence decisions at all levels, from briefing investigators and regulatory officers to preparing court-ready evidence.
- Develop and deliver analytical products that shape intelligence-led compliance and enforcement; collaborate across teams to advocate for intelligence-led approaches and to solve problems.
- Help build a joined-up strategy for regulation, compliance and enforcement using data and information management skills.
- Contribute to investigations, threat assessments and analytical outputs that inform decisions and protect the environment.
- Respond to incidents as part of the role, with availability for incident support, potential additional payment, and full training; alternative working arrangements may be provided.
Experience and Skills/Qualifications
- Experience of working in an intelligence or regulatory environment is essential; transferable skills and the ability to build strong relationships matter
- Ability to handle sensitive information, use intelligence systems confidently, and produce high-quality products that inform decision-making
- Strong communication, attention to detail and self-motivation
- Ability to identify intelligence gaps, assess risk, and help direct resources where needed

- Location is flexible with hybrid working; travel to the Birmingham office and other locations may be required occasionally
