We are seeking Intelligence Officers to join the EA’s National Environmental Crime Unit supporting the Water Industry Intelligence Team.
Water Industry offending is a high-profile Strategic Priority for the EA, attracting international attention. The main purpose of the Intelligence Officer is to provide expertise through the development and use of intelligence and intelligence products to assist decision making at a strategic, tactical and operational level.
You’ll play a vital role in shaping intelligence-led compliance & enforcement, support investigations, develop intelligence and deliver products that influence decisions at operational, tactical and strategic levels. You will use data and information management skills to achieve results, briefing investigators and regulatory officers and collaborating with partners to protect the environment.
You’ll collaborate across teams, advocate for intelligence-led approaches and help build a joined-up strategy for regulation, compliance and enforcement. Responsibilities
- Provide expertise through development and use of intelligence products to assist strategic, tactical and operational decision-making.
- Support investigations and regulatory activities; deliver intelligence-led products to influence decisions.
- Use data and information management skills to achieve results; brief investigators and regulatory officers; collaborate with partners.
- Advocate for intelligence-led approaches and help build a joined-up strategy for regulation, compliance and enforcement.
- Respond to incidents as part of the role, with additional payment, training and alternative working arrangements as required.
- Contribute to National Intelligence Model outputs and ensure outputs are impactful, relevant and aligned with customer and enforcement needs.
Working arrangements and location
Location is flexible with hybrid working; travel to the Birmingham office and other locations will be required on occasions.

Experience/Skills Required
- Experience of working in an intelligence or regulatory environment is essential.
- Ability to handle sensitive information, use intelligence systems confidently and produce high-quality products that inform decision-making.
- Strong communication, attention to detail and self-motivation.
- Ability to identify intelligence gaps, assess risk, and direct resources where needed; build strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Desire to contribute to a purpose-driven mission and tackle environmental crime.
