Job Summary

Without Walls is seeking to appoint an Access Advisor to expand Embedded Access provisions within our Creation & Touring Programme 2026.

Job Description

The postholder should have demonstrable knowledge of best practice for Embedded Access in the arts sector. They will be working with all programme artists to develop a shared Embedded Access provision for the 2026 touring programme. They will also work with selected artists to develop bespoke Embedded Access for a specific touring project; and with select festivals to implement tailored provisions to develop Embedded Accessibility at their events.

The postholder will have experience of working with artists to design Embedded Access from the start of a project, and will also have knowledge of the practical considerations for implementing Embedded Access. For example, they can provide accurate guidance on designing appropriate budgets and timelines for accessible productions etc.

Contract Type: Temporary Freelance

Fee: £3250 (+VAT if applicable) for the delivery of the outlined advisory work. This corresponds to a total of 13 days of work at a daily fee of £250. Days per week to be worked flexibly, according to the needs of the postholder, artists and festivals.

Key dates: The work is to be carried out between Thursday 30 October 2025 and Wednesday 30 September 2026. Please refer to the Outline of Work section in the recruitment pack for details.

Location: Remote, with some necessary and some optional in-person commitments.

All travel and accommodation costs required for attending in-person events will be covered by Without Walls in accordance with our Expense Policy.

Access requirements: We ask candidates to share their access requirements with us so we can make any reasonable adjustments if needed. If the postholder requires an Access Support Worker to fulfil the role, and is unable to receive this support through Access to Work or other means, Without Walls can assist with the costs of this.

Job Requirements

A solid understanding of the Social Model of Disability;

Demonstrable knowledge of and commitment to best practice for accessibility, equity and inclusivity in the cultural sector;

Up to date knowledge of context, challenges, and policies concerning disability and access, particularly relating to the cultural sector;

Experience of working in the cultural sector, particularly performing and outdoor arts, in England and beyond;

Experience and knowledge of the practical steps required to plan and implement embedded access provisions within an arts context;

Experience of providing professional consultancy or mentoring to creatives and organisations;

Experience of planning and delivering training sessions;

Skilled at explaining accessibility guidance in a clear, supportive way that responds to different circumstances;

Confident in taking the initiative and managing work independently where required;

Job Responsibilities

Review Without Walls artists' specific projects and the access initiatives they are interested in implementing long term;

Contribute to the selection of the artists developing tailored Embedded Access for their specific projects following the above review;

Identify one Embedded Access provision for the full cohort to implement for the 2026 festival period, delivering a group training session on this at the Artists' Welcome Meeting (in person);

Support artists to create an Access Rider and to engage with festivals about their access needs;

Carry out two bespoke 1 to 1 consultation with the artists developing Embedded Access long-term in their specific projects, providing tailored context, recommendations and practical support in creating productions with these provisions in 2027 and beyond;

Carry out a final 1 to 1 closing meeting with the above artists to review their journeys;
