Advanced Paramedic Practitioner - Independent Prescriber

Reports to: Clinical Lead/Non Medical Prescribing Lead
Responsible to: Head of Practice Clinical Services
Salary: 8.1 to 8.7 on the ABC pay scale, equivalent to £50,901.77 to £57,323.66
Hours of work: Full time/part time, service coverage 08:00 to 20:00, Monday to Sunday
Base: UK based remote working, with regular attendance required at ABC Offices in Surrey and Sussex

Primary duties and areas of responsibility

Clinical responsibilities

  1. Independently undertake specialised clinical assessments, diagnose, treat, and discharge or refer patients with a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses.
  2. Ensure patients are fully involved in designing and implementing their treatment plans.
  3. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across primary and secondary care to provide seamless service and prevent hospital admission where urgent care is needed.
  4. Refer appropriately to clinical leads or supervising GPs for second opinions.
  5. Adapt communication styles to promote empowerment, self-management, and health education.
  6. Attend clinical case conferences, reviews, and meetings as required.
  7. Serve as a clinical expert to less experienced staff and delegate duties appropriately.
  8. Provide specialist advice on minor illnesses and injuries to healthcare teams, patients, relatives, and carers.
  9. Identify clinical risks and take appropriate actions, reporting as necessary.

Leadership / Service Delivery Responsibilities

  1. Maintain accurate patient records according to standards and policies, supporting colleagues in documentation and contributing to data coding.
  2. Work within guidelines and participate in audits, research, and service improvement initiatives.
  3. Contribute to communication networks to ensure continuity of care.
  4. Gather feedback from patients and report service issues and risks to managers and leads.
  5. Support clinical governance activities, including incident and complaint investigations and learning dissemination.
  6. Provide clinical supervision or mentorship to junior practitioners as appropriate.
  7. Remain updated on equipment use and report technical issues.
  8. Participate in clinical team meetings to discuss operational matters.

Education / Personal & Professional Development

  1. Develop and maintain routine and specialist skills within HCPC standards, staying current with clinical practice developments.
  2. Mentor and supervise junior team members, supporting their professional growth.
  3. Identify personal training needs and pursue relevant education and development opportunities.

Research / Audit

  1. Evaluate patient care through audits, promoting evidence-based practice.
  2. Collaborate on research initiatives and support dissemination of findings.
  3. Participate in ongoing audits to improve practice and service quality.
  4. Utilise data analysis software for reporting and research purposes.
