Main Responsibilities of the role
- To ensure that Adult Safeguarding concerns are screened, risk assessed, and a threshold decision is made and ensuring that the overall principles of the Care Act (2014) are followed.
- To effectively liaise with partner agencies, adults and their representatives, to ensure that information is shared and gathered appropriately, including initiating and leading on strategy discussions and initial safeguarding planning as required.
- To contribute to the operational functioning of the team, for example monitoring the demand of incoming safeguarding concerns and the priority of work and contributing and striving to improve the overall quality of work produced, including ensuring good levels of professional curiosity and effective social work practice.
- To support the Team Manager with the day to day running of the team and to improve safeguarding and care support outcomes for Adults in Walsall, whilst ensuring that all staff operate in a manner consistent with the relevant legislation, policies and procedures, and the Social Work England Code of Practice and to facilitate practice improvement and development within the team.
- To work within a strength based and risk enabling approach, to achieve good, safe and person-centred outcomes for vulnerable adults with care and support needs, who may be at risk of harm or abuse.
- To support professional mentoring, to drive up quality standards through high quality consistent reflective supervision and appraisal for a small group of social workers, who will carry out enquiries into concerns, to assist with the risk assessment of safeguarding referrals.
- To represent the safeguarding hub at internal and partnership information sharing meetings such as MARAC and MAPPA meetings.
The candidate
You must be a registered social worker with:
- A sound knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidance, including the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and other related legislation.
- A good working knowledge of adult social care and adult safeguarding and the role of statutory and non-statutory partners.
- A passion and commitment to working with colleagues, professionals and other agencies to achieve the best possible outcome relating to allegations of adults being at risk or experiencing various forms of abuse.
- Have a post qualification award as a BIA, Practice Educator or an AMHP, with previous experience in a similar role.
- The ability to demonstrate competence, knowledge and the ability as an advanced practitioner, as outlined in the job description and person specification.
- The post is covered by the Code of Practice on the English Language fluency Duty for public sector workers.
