An exciting permanent opportunity to coordinate the work of a new team supporting children safely returning home to live with their families.

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of children and families in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. As a service, we have committed to having only the right children at the right time in our care. We want to support children who could safely return home to live with their families permanently.

As a result, we are excited to be setting up a Reunification Service to work alongside children’s social workers, with children’s families, to enable children who can be supported to go home to do so without delay.

We are looking to recruit two permanent and full-time Advanced Practitioners (Social Workers) to head up teams – one on the West for children supported by Taunton and Sedgemoor, and one on the East for children supported by South Somerset and Mendip.

Your day-to-day work will involve, working as part of the team around children and families:

assessing families and planning with them and the professionals around them how their child can return to their care and what support they need.
supervising up to 5 Family Intervention Workers (or similar role), who can offer direct flexible and intensive support to families as part of this team.
reviewing plans and assessing outcomes for children and the reunification service

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be.

You will need to be:

A qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England with significant experience of working with children and families
Experienced in supporting, mentoring and/or supervising others
Confident and experienced in writing detailed and analytical assessments, plans and reports, co-produced with young people and families, and other professionals
Passionate about relationship-based social work, proud of your profession, and able to reflect and think creatively about how you can build relationships to make a difference to children and families.

The salary range for this role is £41,771 to £46,142 per annum

Appointments are normally made at the bottom of the salary scale.
