Advisor - Water Resources Resilience - 31494
The Environment Agency is committed to fostering an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We value diversity and aim to create an environment that benefits our staff, communities, and the environment.
We are at an exciting juncture in planning England’s water resources. Our water supply faces ongoing pressures, with recent droughts and dry weather across England, marking the driest start to a year since 1976. We have published the National Framework for Water Resources to secure our future water supply. Your role will be pivotal in its success.
First introduced in March 2020, this framework innovated in planning for resilience against climate change, droughts, and population growth, while enhancing the environment. The 2025 update emphasizes the urgency of water resource challenges and promotes integrated planning across sectors and levels.
Your responsibilities will include supporting the delivery and implementation of the National Framework for Water Resources, working with stakeholders such as Defra, regulators, water companies, and sectors like energy and agriculture.
The Team
You will join the Water Resources Resilience team, leading the national framework and collaborating across sectors to improve resilience. We are part of the Environment and Business Directorate, influencing policy, legislation, and environmental initiatives.
Experience/Skills Required
We welcome applicants with a good understanding of water resources or those eager to learn. Desirable skills include:
- Project and program management
- Experience in environmental regulation, planning, licensing, or sustainable abstraction
- Reviewing statutory plans
- Stakeholder relationship management
- Proven results achievement
As a dispersed team, initiative and effective communication are essential. We offer development opportunities and training.
Additional Information
This is a fixed-term role until 31 March 2026. We support flexible working, including hybrid options, and provide training. The role is based at an EA office with a national scope, with some travel required. For more details, see the Candidate Pack or contact WRNationalFramework@environment-agency.gov.uk.
Applications are assessed via competency questions. Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams within two weeks of the closing date.
