AML Specialist – Leading Law Firm

Manchester (Hybrid Working)

We’re currently partnering with a prestigious law firm based in Manchester to recruit an experienced AML Specialist to join their Risk & Compliance team.

This is an exciting opportunity to step into a newly created role, designed to support fee earners in navigating complex AML and wider financial crime queries. You'll play a central role in ensuring firm-wide compliance with AML and sanctions legislation, while also leading improvements to internal AML policies, procedures, systems, and training.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop the firm-wide AML risk assessment, using data from onboarding, file reviews, and risk assessments, alongside regulatory guidance and industry trends
  • Provide expert support on complex client onboarding, including enhanced due diligence and reputational/sanctions risk assessments
  • Respond to escalated screening alerts and general AML queries within the Risk & Compliance team
  • Prepare and deliver firm-wide AML training
  • Review and enhance existing AML policies, procedures, and systems to ensure effectiveness and regulatory alignment
  • Conduct sample reviews of client and matter risk assessments, identifying and addressing any knowledge or process gaps
  • Assist the MLRO and Deputy MLRO in managing internal suspicious activity reports (SARs)
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including partners, fee earners, support teams, and the wider compliance function

Requirements

  • A genuine interest in building a long-term career in AML and financial crime compliance
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an AML or compliance role, ideally within a legal or professional services environment
  • Strong knowledge of UK AML regulations, sanctions legislation, and SRA or other regulatory guidance
  • Familiarity with MS Office, client onboarding systems, and financial crime databases
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
