We are looking to strengthen our Commercial team with an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, based in Bournemouth with hybrid working available.

You will report directly to the Senior Quantity Surveyor. The purpose of your role as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor is to provide Quantity Surveying services and ensure that all contractual and financial entitlements are fulfilled. You will assist the Chief, Senior, and Quantity Surveyor in day-to-day operations and duties.

Key responsibilities will include:

1. Working as directed by the Managing QS and Quantity Surveyor, assisting with cost control, maximizing value, minimizing liabilities, and maintaining quality and safety standards.
2. Monitoring and reporting on direct labour payments accurately.
3. Reporting withheld, disputed, or disallowed costs and assisting with dispute resolution.
4. Monitoring insurance claims, including collecting cost information related to claims.
5. Assisting with subcontract preparation, measurement of interim & final accounts, and supporting the Quantity Surveyor in disputes and claims.
6. Expediting payments from the client.
7. Maintaining and updating contract files and records.
8. Assisting in the preparation of cash forecasts.
9. Ensuring timely and accurate final accounts.
10. Collating financial information for audits and following cost assurance processes.
11. Capturing actual costs in accordance with the WBS and cost base requirements.
12. Extracting information from contract records for valuation of subcontract accounts, claims, and variations.
13. Assisting in preparing progress payment applications to clients.
14. Evaluating subcontractor applications.
15. Effectively liaising with external clients, subcontractors, internal contract, accounts staff, and QS staff.

Essential requirements:

• Working or studying towards a formal qualification in quantity surveying.
• Basic understanding of contractual, financial, and quantity surveying skills.

Desirable skills and experience:

• Knowledge of the water/wastewater industry.
• Experience within a construction background.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues impacted by your activities.
