RPS is seeking an Associate Director to join our Built Heritage Team. This is a unique opportunity for a consultant to develop an existing client base. We are primarily recruiting at the Associate Director level but may consider appointing a Director for the right candidate. The successful candidate will need to attend the office at least one day per week.

You will be part of an experienced heritage team working on some of the most significant and complex heritage projects in the country. We offer a diverse range of project experiences, collaborating with English Heritage, Historic Royal Palaces, major developers, regeneration leaders, and individual property owners. Our team works within interdisciplinary groups alongside innovative architects to deliver outstanding developments.

Responsibilities include:

1. Preparation of Heritage Statements, Environmental Statements, and Listed Building Consent applications.
2. Line management and mentoring of junior staff.
3. Business development activities.
4. Engagement with clients, local planning authorities, and stakeholders.
5. Potential expert witness work, including attendance at Public Inquiries.
6. Financial management of projects to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery.

Candidate requirements:

• Proven heritage expertise with a pragmatic approach to the historic environment.
• Experience leading clients through heritage constraints and providing advice on major projects.
• Experience as an expert witness.
• Membership of the IHBC at Associate or Full level.
• Degree in conservation of historic buildings and places.
• Strong knowledge of the planning system.
• A full, clean driving license.
