We are looking for an experienced Associate Director (Ecology) to lead our Ecology team in Bristol. This role offers the chance to play a key role in growing the team and contributing to exciting projectsthat are making an impact both regionally and nationally.
Our Waterman Ecology team is a CIEEM Registered Ecology Practice exemplifying our depth and breadth of experience and technical excellence.
The Role:
As Associate Director (Ecology), you will lead ecological assessments and provide expert consultancy on various high-profile projects. You will be responsible for overseeing large-scale ecological surveys, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, and supporting the team’s development. A key aspect of the role will be collaborating with other disciplines and contributing to the growth of our ecological presence in the Southwest.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead ecological surveys and assessments, with a focus on protected species surveys, Ecological Impact Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain.
• Provide expert ecological advice to clients on a range of development projects, from feasibility through to post-planning.
• Manage and develop the local team, mentoring junior staff and helping them progress in their careers.
• Contribute to business development and client relationship management.
• Stay informed on the latest ecological policies and planning legislation.
• Oversee the preparation of fee proposals, tenders, and technical reports.
What We’re Looking For:
• A degree in Ecology or a related field.
• Experience in consultancy, with Full Membership of CIEEM and/or Chartered Ecologist status.
• In-depth knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning processes.
• Proven experience in leading large-scale ecological projects.
• Strong team management and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of the Southwest market and opportunities for growth.
