SLR has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Highways Engineer with a track record in the delivery of complex infrastructure projects, work winning and business development to join our busy Transport Engineering Team in either London or Manchester. The successful applicant will lead on managing project execution for a wide range of projects, as well as helping grow the team through a combination of business development from new and existing clients. The successful applicant will be supported by the Technical Discipline Manager as well as a well-established team of Engineers to ensure successful outputs are achieved.

Our Transport Engineering Team has expertise across a range of engineering sectors including highways, drainage, civil and structural. The team provides clients with expertise at all project stages, including

Planning

Feasibility

Outline and detailed designs for major highways and infrastructure projects

Overall Project and Programme Management

Development and Preparation of Technical Specifications

Preparation of Tender Packages and Tender Evaluation

Commercial support throughout the lifecycle of a project

Responsibilities

  • Work independently and within a team to develop new and existing business, and deliver projects.
  • Act as a project manager to manage the delivery of complex infrastructure projects, manage proposal development, undertake business development initiatives and manage clients.
  • Provide workload to others in the team and other disciplines and mentor and coach other engineers within the team and support sector and client leads across the business.
  • Contribute to strategic direction, planning and development of the team, creating new opportunities and prospects, enhancing and broadening team capacity and capability, recruiting new staff, identifying target markets and developing future strategies.
  • Collaborate with other sectors with SLR staff in disciplines including Advisory, Environmental Management and Compliance, Land and Water and Environmental Specialist Services Groups.
  • Work and travel across Europe and engage in internal Business Development in a consultancy environment.

About The Role

You will work independently and within a team to develop new and existing business, and deliver projects. You will act as a project manager to manage the delivery of complex infrastructure projects, manage proposal development, undertake Business Development initiatives and manage clients. You will provide workload to others in the team and other disciplines and will be expected to mentor and coach other engineers within the team and support the sector and client leads across the business.

As a senior member of the team, you will have input into the strategic direction, planning and development of the team, creating new opportunities and prospects, enhancing and broadening team capacity and capability, recruiting new staff, identifying target markets and developing future strategies.

You will work across other sectors with SLR staff in disciplines including the Advisory, Environmental Management and Compliance, Land and Water and Environmental Specialist Services Groups. You will have the opportunity to work within an experienced team and be involved in a series of exciting challenges with one of the leading environmental and engineering consultancies in the UK. You will have the opportunity to work and travel across Europe and internal Business development in a consultancy environment.

About You

If you are interested in applying, we would love to hear from you. In order to be successful, we'd envisage that you would be able to demonstrate:

  • A solid track record managing projects and teams, working in the UK on highways and infrastructure projects
  • Proven business development capabilities and the ability to manage high level client relationships and to win and deliver new work through both existing and new client contacts
  • Experience of leading and managing teams of professional, engineering and operational staff in a project, consultancy or contracting environment including proposal and tender writing experience
  • Strong leadership, project management, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, and managing, mentoring and coaching staff
  • Demonstrable knowledge of UK engineering guidance
  • Masters Degree in Civil Engineering or similar
  • Member of Institute of Civil Engineers or similar
  • Must have a full, current, driving licence valid in the UK
  • Procurement and specification writing
