Overview
Associate Event Director role at We Are Africa. We are looking for someone to lead one of our flagship events, shaping its strategy, driving flawless execution, and owning its commercial success (revenue, profitability, and audience). You will be the face of the event, building relationships with exhibitors, buyers, sponsors, and industry leaders. Reporting to an Event Portfolio Director, you will work with our internal creative & central marketing team while leading the sales and local marketing team for your show. The goal is to shape an unforgettable experience and raise the bar of your show, every year.
The Role
You’ll take the reins of one of our flagship events — shaping its strategy, driving flawless execution, and owning its commercial success (revenue, profitability, and audience). As the face of the event, you\'ll build relationships with exhibitors, buyers, sponsors, and industry leaders. You will work with our internal creative & central marketing team while leading the sales and local marketing team for your show. Your goal will be to shape an unforgettable experience and raise the bar of your show, every single year.
What You Will Do
- Own and lead the event strategy, delivery and growth. You\'ll be the person steering the ship.
- Hold budget and commercial responsibility (revenue, profitability, audience) for the event.
- Plan, coordinate and execute the event journey: from detailed timelines and logistics through to flawless onsite delivery.
- Build and nurture long-lasting client and stakeholder relationships with hoteliers, buyers, sponsors, and media.
- Collaborate with our sales and marketing teams to shape bold campaigns and event experiences that cut through.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement, ensuring every edition feels fresh, premium, and unforgettable.
- Lead and inspire your team of sales, marketing and operations specialists: mentoring, motivating, and modelling our culture of creativity, excellence and collaboration.
What You Will Need
- 9+ years in event management or sales (ideally luxury travel, hospitality, or high-end B2B tradeshow/ event experiences).
- Proven record of delivering large-scale, complex events for high-profile clients.
- Demonstrated success leading sales/ events teams and driving revenue growth.
- Strong organisational skills; able to juggle multiple priorities and projects with ease.
- Expertise in developing and managing schedules, budgets, and timelines.
- Financial acumen: budget creation, cost control, and financial reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication that is persuasive, clear, and confident.
- Creative thinker with a flair for designing innovative event concepts and solutions.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships across clients, partners, and internal teams.
- A team-oriented leader who can mentor, inspire, and support colleagues at all levels.
- Results-driven and resilient, with a focus on achieving strategic goals and delivering under pressure.
- Adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable with some international travel.
- Curious and responsive to market trends, client feedback, and performance data & always seeking improvement.

Position Type
Permanent, with a 4-day working week. Our hybrid model includes 3 days in the office (located in Shepherd\'s Bush), 1 day working from home, and every Friday as a non-working day as standard.
