Associate or Associate Director, EIA - Nuclear (UK Wide)

We are looking for a professional to contribute to environmental impact assessment (EIA) and planning processes for nuclear projects across the UK. The role focuses on navigating the consenting landscape, delivering environmental design, assessment and management across the project lifecycle, and supporting multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to environmental planning and EIA work for nuclear projects, including planning applications, EIAs, permitting and compliance, feasibility studies, and support for DCO examinations and planning inquiries.
  • Manage projects end-to-end, including bidding, scope definition, delivery, quality assurance, scheduling, and financial management.
  • Provide environmental advice to clients, project managers and colleagues, and promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships; identify opportunities to support project strategy, resourcing and delivery.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects and mentor junior staff; drive performance improvement and career development.
  • Promote innovation through approaches such as Digital EIA and other forward-looking methods; champion inclusion and a positive team environment.
  • Support business development activities, including developing proposals for complex opportunities and pursuing framework opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Relevant environmental or planning degree (or equivalent experience); chartered status or active progression toward chartership.
  • Experience delivering Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for nuclear projects under UK planning regimes (Town and Country Planning Act, EIADR, Planning Act 2008); familiarity with Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) 2016 is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of consenting processes for nuclear projects (e.g., Habitats Regulations Assessment, Environmental Permit applications) and their integration with planning and EIA.
  • Ability to lead client communications and manage relationships with regulators and stakeholders; strong public consultation and engagement skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, report writing, attention to detail and quality assurance.
  • Proven line management experience and ability to develop internal teams.
  • Experience contributing to strategic planning, bid/proposal development and business development in the nuclear sector.
