We have an exciting opportunity for you to lead and grow a national arboricultural consultancy team in either our London or Cambridge office. Arboriculture is an in-demand and ever-growing offering for Lanpro, complementing our strong planning and design capability. As an Associate Director / Technical Director and team leader you will be responsible for all aspects of growing and managing a successful arboricultural consultancy business at a national level. You will report to our director of design, Mark Topping, who is responsible for leading the design business unit across the UK. You will work closely alongside, and be supported by, our Principal Arboriculture and Ecology Consultant in Norwich, Alexander Lowe. We do not work in silos, you will contribute to the success of the arboriculture and wider Lanpro business across the UK.

You will be an ambassador for the company, undertaking business development through building upon existing client relationships and actively seeking opportunities for future business, whilst also taking a leadership role in developing the team’s core competencies.
Key Requirements For The Role
- Significant experience providing high quality arboriculture consultancy services in line with best practice and relevant British Standards.
- Experience with winning new work, gaining and maintaining strong client relationships and driving business growth. Experience assisting with the preparation of bids and tenders would be advantageous.
- Proven record of being able to manage and oversee project delivery.
- Being able to lead and motivate your team, acting as a role model at all times to ensure your team are aligned with the companies vision.
- Ability to undertake technically complex work and competently review and approve deliverables produced by the rest of the team.
- Experience of managing and delivering a team budget. Ability to assess and set appropriate goals for the team's growth and development, providing guidance and support to help them meet their targets and deliverables whilst assigning and delegating responsibilities and monitoring progress.
- You must have a full, clean UK driving licence and ownership / use of a car (with business insurance)
- Builds and leads a successful national arboriculture team .
- Demonstrates effective management and the ability to influence and persuade across a range of stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Helps to ensure all members of the team are effectively developed and is committed to personal CPD in pursuit of continuous learning and self-improvement.
- Brings fresh ideas to team growth and structure in a challenging recruitment market.
- Inputs into team objectives and delegates effectively.
- Takes responsibility for line management, coaching, mentoring, training, wellbeing and performance management.
- Ability to work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary design team.
- Champions the Lanpro client-centric agenda internally and externally.
- Establishes, consolidates, and builds on relationships with new and existing clients and colleagues.
- Maintains strong client, sector and discipline networking across the UK.
- Ensures client expectations are managed appropriately and that their needs are identified and met (or exceeded).
- Provides technical input into projects and bids and uses technical knowledge to identify and realise new client opportunities.
- Develops business opportunities with new and existing clients with little or no support and demonstrates excellent judgement and ability in targeting strategic and profitable projects.
- Makes decisions at a tactical level with strategic input to overall functional strategy and national Business Plan.
- Freedom to make decisions affecting the function within the overall business strategy.
- Has a strong professional profile and reputation both internally and within the industry and utilises this effectively to leverage business opportunities.
- Day to day line management of the national arboriculture team.
- Performs a challenging range and variety of complex technical and professional activities in the pursuit of project excellence.
- Ensures compliance and adherence to all applicable SHEQ procedures for self and others.
- Takes a key role in projects within relevant specialist field.
- Project Director / Project Manager / Discipline Lead for projects of all scales and complexities.
- Maintains continuing professional development in accordance with the requirements of the Arboricultural Association and/or The Institute of Chartered Foresters.
- In excess of 10 years relevant experience.
- BSc/ Masters/ MArborA / CEnv preferred.
- Leadership / management experience preferred.
- People leader, culture leader, team player
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong client management and resolution including the ability to present at senior levels and across a range of stakeholders
- Excellent project management skills coupled with timeliness and accuracy.
- Strong report writing skills and ability to quality assure colleagues’ work providing constructive feedback.
- Strong commercial knowledge.
- Exemplary knowledge and expertise of relevant legislation and policy.
