Automation Consultant – Nomios UK&I

Your role as Automation Consultant

As an Automation Consultant you will be involved from the start of an engagement, seeing it through to design, deployment and hand‑over. You will work with customers to implement solutions such as a source of truth, network-as-code, or APIs that expose key network functions. The role requires a high‑energy, client‑focused professional who is passionate about network automation and can think on their feet.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in pre‑sales and professional services engagements.
  • Run workshops, lead design workstreams and present technical solutions to customers.
  • Design, develop and integrate APIs (REST, GraphQL, NETCONF, gRPC).
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub/GitLab).
  • Build and troubleshoot containerised services with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Manage environments using infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Support and train colleagues to maximise team effectiveness.

Required skills and experience

  • Passion for DevOps and automation.
  • At least two years’ experience developing object‑oriented Python.
  • Strong knowledge of network and cloud security best practices.
  • Experience integrating and developing APIs (REST, GraphQL, NETCONF, gRPC).
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub/GitLab.
  • Familiarity with unit testing (pytest) and a passion for software testing.
  • Experience troubleshooting Docker and Kubernetes‑based services.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure‑config tools such as Ansible and Terraform.

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • At least two years' experience in a network engineering or related role.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: OSI model, IP protocols, dynamic routing, firewalls, DNS, HTTP, BGP, MPLS.
  • Knowledge or certifications with vendors such as Netbox, IP Fabric, Slurpit, Itential, Apstra, Juniper, Nokia, Arista.
  • Experience with test‑driven development.
  • Experience working in Scrum teams.

Job Specifics

  • Location: Hybrid – requires attendance at our Basingstoke office; we provide hot & cold drinks, breakfast items, snacks, lunches and regular takeaway Fridays.
  • Hours: Full‑time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am‑5:30 pm, with occasional evening or weekend work.
  • Travel: Includes UK travel with occasional overnight stays and occasional international trips.
  • Requirements: Must hold a full UK driving licence to attend customer sites across the UK.
