Backend Software Engineer / DevOps (Python AWS Amazon CDK) – Manchester to £100k

Do you have strong Python and AWS skills combined with start-up / SME experience? You could progress your career in a senior, hands-on Backend Software Engineer / DevOps role at a technology start-up that is producing a software suite for legal firms, significantly reducing para-legal workloads. The company has seen strong interest in the product and has substantial greenfield development work.

As a Backend Software Engineer / DevOps you will join a small technology team and take ownership of backend development and DevOps work. You will work on a range of projects, see the results of your work quickly, and have input into technical decision making. You will primarily be working in Python within an AWS environment, collaborating closely with DevOps Engineers.

Location

Location / Hybrid: You’ll join a small but growing team based in Central Manchester three days a week with flexibility to work from home the other two days.

About You

• You have strong Python backend development skills
• You have experience with AWS including Amazon CDK
• You have a strong understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD, IaC
• You have full software development lifecycle experience and a good knowledge of modern software engineering best practices
• You have good business acumen, with experience of working in start-ups or SMEs
• You are degree educated in Computer Science or similar technical discipline

Responsibilities

• Jointly own backend development and DevOps tasks within a small technology team
• Work on greenfield and existing projects with a focus on Python in AWS
• Collaborate with DevOps Engineers and participate in technical decision making
• Follow modern software engineering practices and CI/CD/IaC pipelines

Requirements

• Strong Python backend development skills
• Experience with AWS including Amazon CDK
• Solid understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD, IaC
• Full software development lifecycle experience and knowledge of best practices
• Business acumen with experience in startups or SMEs
• Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
