Purpose of this Role
- Affirm that national standards have been achieved and upheld.
- Monitor centres' compliance with Pearson quality assurance expectations for RQF BTEC Higher National programmes through sampling and visit activities.
- Support centres during the sampling process.
- Assist centres in delivering BTEC Higher National programmes to meet national standards.
Key Accountabilities
- Sampling assessed student work within defined parameters to ensure assessment aligns with Pearson standards for Higher National qualifications.
- Provide support and development to centres related to sampling.
- Produce reports on sampling activities, outcomes, and support provided.
- Apply appropriate sanctions in consultation with the team leader if assessment outcomes do not meet standards.
- Develop targeted actions for centres to address issues with standards.
- Support centres in understanding and implementing these actions.
- Assist the Senior External Examiner (SEE) in sourcing training and standardisation materials.
- Report back to Pearson and centres following EE activities within service-level agreements.
- Undertake other duties related to Technical and Professional Assessment as appropriate.
Previous Experience
Essential:
- Deep understanding of delivering and assessing BTEC Higher National qualifications in the relevant subject area.
- Recent experience in HN development, delivery, or assessment is preferable.
- Hold a qualification at least at Level 6 and possess a relevant competence qualification or professional membership.
- Participate annually in online training and standardisation activities with successful completion.
Desirable:
- Evidence of recent CPD in the sector.
- Willingness to use technology-based communication and support tools.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential:
- Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, IT, and interpersonal.
- Good knowledge of the specifications in the relevant subject area.
- Customer-focused approach.
- Ability to meet deadlines and develop action plans.
- Effective team working skills.
Desirable:
- Intermediate Word and Excel skills.
