Here's the exciting part… a day in the life includes:

Role Purpose: We are seeking a proactive and commercially minded Building Surveyor to support the Property Department with scheduled and reactive tasks. This role is vital in managing building-related issues across our property portfolio, including overseeing dilapidations, managing building projects, preparing schedules of condition, and handling unexpected building matters—both directly and through external consultants.

A typical day includes:

• Reporting to the Head of Estates, overseeing building issues mainly within our retail premises, with occasional advice on head offices and distribution centers.
• Evaluating occupational matters and claims, determining resource allocation—either handling cases personally or assigning them to external firms.
• Overseeing external building surveyors managing dilapidations and repairs, including site works and financial negotiations, and providing recommendations.
• Preparing board papers for settlements or CAPEX approvals.
• Assisting with new store acquisitions by assessing site queries and conducting schedules of condition.
• Carrying out site inspections for existing sites when issues arise to advise on next steps.
• Reacting to Health and Safety matters as they occur.

Requirements:

• Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS or FRICS) with at least 4 years post-qualification experience.
• Commercial experience in the retail sector, balancing technical and commercial decisions.
• Ability to travel within the UK.
• Experience preparing schedules of condition, managing dilapidations, and negotiating settlements.
• Comfortable managing cases independently and overseeing external partners.
• Experience handling emergency building issues.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and internal databases.
