The Opportunity
Contract: This is a 6 month fixed term contract
Location:We're open to the successful candidate being based from either Cardiff, London, Manchester or Southampton. Travel between sites will be required. All Starling Bank colleagues spend a minimum of 10 days per month in the office with flexibility to work the rest from home.
Reporting to:Head of Business Delivery, Shared Services
The Business Delivery Consultant will support the design and delivery of initiatives to set- up, support, and strengthen the Shared Services function.
The role holder will focus on initiatives that ensure Shared Services are future-ready, supporting the Operations functions across the Chief Operating Office including structures
Leveraging relevant industry knowledge and experience, the role holder will champion a single best approach to drive consistency and simplicity across Shared Services and all supported Operations teams within the Chief Operating Office, fostering a 'one team' environment.
Key Accountabilities or Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the Shared Services Delivery plan.
- Lead discussions, engagement, and ownership with Shared Services Heads for the detailed delivery of specific initiatives, maintaining the plan and tracking progress.
- The initial focus will be on the Stand Up of Shared Services, including the design of gap items such as work reception and read-across frameworks, and Performance and Value Realisation, all of which support the Chief Operating Office's strategic plan.
- Working with the People team and Operations teams undertake analysis of roles and responsibilities to ensure effective mapping to the new structure is in place.
- Support Shared Services priority initiatives that have a broad impact across the function's teams, applying a 'single best approach' principle and embedding delivery intobusiness-as-usual (BAU).
- Support a team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) aligned to prioritised initiatives, fostering their skill and experience development.
- Build and maintain relationships with Directors, Heads, and Senior stakeholders to support delivery and overcome barriers to success.
- Act as a key member of the Shared Service Business Delivery team, promoting our customer and company culture to foster high morale.
Requirements
Regulatory experience:
- Excellent understanding of FCA regulatory requirements relating to Operational Banking.
- Proven, strong experience working within a regulatory environment in the Finance Sector, specifically within Operations.
- Demonstrates accountability and a strong customer focus.
- Ability to positively influence Senior Leaders up to Executive level.
- Committed to developing colleagues' knowledge and building added value.
- Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to lead teams through rapid change.
- Remains calm and organised, effectively balancing workload, schedules, multiple priorities, and ad hoc escalations.
- Proficient in creating clear and simple solutions for complex challenges and opportunities.
- Willingness to work in a 24/7 environment.
- Willingness to travel to our four core office locations (Cardiff, Southampton, London, and Manchester) as required, complementing flexible working arrangements.
Skills:
- Deep knowledge of Operational Banking activities, including Organisational Design, Budget Management, Quality Control, Training & Competence, MI, and Continuous Improvement,
- Proficiency in analysing budgetary information to identify trends, opportunities, and threats.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with proven ability to lead a business unit.
- Demonstrated ability to create simple, actionable solutions from complex issues and support their successful delivery.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to effectively partner with diverse teams and build strong inter-departmental working relationships.
- Aptitude for motivating teams and building morale in a fast-paced, growing departmental environment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to balance workload, schedules, multiple priorities, and manage ad hoc escalations.
