What You'll Do
You will be supporting the development and execution of commercial sourcing strategies to optimise the supply chain and deliver value for the business. You will collaborate with the Technology Supply Chain and Logistics functions to source services and products that align with Sainsbury's 'Plan for Better' agenda, focusing on optimisation and decarbonisation of the Group supply chain. In this role, you will lead multiple commercial tenders and negotiations, ensuring sourcing activities adhere to Sainsbury's Procurement Policy. You will also contribute to developing complex commercial strategies, conduct supplier appraisal and selection, and provide analytical support across category areas, taking ownership of the end-to-end procurement lifecycle.
Who You Are
- You are an experienced professional in procurement or relevant commercial experience, driven by commercial acumen and a desire to build a successful career in procurement.
- You possess a strong understanding of procurement principles and techniques, including leading strategic sourcing activities, with experience managing suppliers and stakeholders in a commercial environment.
- You are curious about key cost drivers within your category and can identify opportunities for improvement.
- You deliver value beyond numbers by leveraging supplier and stakeholder relationships.
- You are confident and independent in leading difficult conversations and negotiations with senior internal and external contacts.
- You can balance stakeholder, business, customer, and colleague needs in decision-making.
- You can quantify and evaluate the cost/benefit of options to optimise sourcing outcomes.
- You can deliver business-as-usual activities such as supplier appraisal, contract negotiations, and supplier management within a governance framework.
- You have excellent communication skills, enabling effective influence and driving business change as part of a cross-functional team.
- You have experience managing end-to-end commercial tenders and leading negotiations to support value for money and supply chain decarbonisation.
- Your attention to detail, legal knowledge, and adherence to procurement policies ensure compliance with Sainsbury's standards.
- You have experience negotiating with third parties, with knowledge of contract law.
- You are resilient and adaptable, supporting Sainsbury's through change in a dynamic environment.
- While experience with procurement or supply chain technology is desirable, it is not essential.
