About the Organisation
Mid and South Essex ICB is a statutory organisation responsible for the planning and delivery of local health and care services across Mid and South Essex. The headquarters are Seax House, Chelmsford. A hybrid model of working is followed, with office attendance and community visits across Essex and home working.
Role Purpose / Summary
Supports the Cancer Alliances ambition to improve early cancer diagnosis across mid and south Essex. Working within the NHS communications team, the postholder will lead targeted communications and engagement with primary care networks (PCNs), patient groups, and voluntary sector partners. Key responsibilities include promoting cancer screening uptake among underserved communities, sharing updated referral pathways, developing educational resources for non‑clinical staff, and ensuring timely information flow and stakeholder engagement.
Key Deliverables
- Work with the ICB cancer programme team to develop engagement plans for earlier diagnosis and prevention agendas.
- Develop a communications schedule using social media and existing resources to promote signs and symptoms of cancer.
- Provide insights for central patient resources available to all ICBs.
- Ensure projects meet key milestones and goals against set timescales.
- Act as the link between the cancer programme and the communications team.
- Provide assurance to cancer stewards and others on progress.
- Nurture relationships with key stakeholders across the system.
- Escalate issues and seek guidance where appropriate.
- Manage staff and any budgets and/or income streams where required.
- Demonstrate business acumen and value for money.
- Competently use ICB owned digital platforms such as Primary Care Hub (SharePoint) and Engagement HQ (Virtual Views).
Responsibilities
- Ensure timely information cascade to PCNs.
- Develop and promote educational sessions for non‑clinical staff.
- Collaborate closely with the Cancer Alliance, primary care leads, and communications teams.
- Support the broader NHS Mid and South Essex communications team with priorities focused on patients, staff and wider communities.
- Assist in developing excellent relationships with partners and stakeholders locally, regionally, and nationally.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree – Plus.
- Knowledge of specialist areas acquired through postgraduate diploma or equivalent.
- Project Management Qualification or equivalent level of experience.
- Evidence of continuing personal development.
- Substantial experience at a senior level in the NHS or public sector.
- Experience leading, managing and delivering projects involving stakeholders, particularly primary care.
- Experience managing complex, sensitive or confidential information, handling correspondence and queries.
- Demonstrated partnership working and ability to influence across multiple stakeholders.
- Advanced IT skills in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
- High level of attention to detail, prioritisation and organisational skills.
