This role supports the Cancer Alliances ambition to improve early cancer diagnosis across mid and south Essex. Working within the NHS communications team, the postholder will lead targeted communications and engagement with primary care networks (PCNs), patient groups, and voluntary sector partners. Key responsibilities include promoting cancer screening up take especially among underserved communities sharing updated referral pathways, and developing educational resources for non clinical staff.

The role acts as a vital link between the cancer programme and communications, ensuring timely information flow, stakeholder engagement, and delivery of awareness campaigns. It also contributes to broader ICB communications priorities, supporting system-wide collaboration and patient-focused messaging.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced communications professional with strong project management skills, a collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement, and a passion for improving cancer outcomes through effective communication with primary care and communities. This fixed term role is available as an internal secondment until end of March2026.

The postholder will support cancer screening uptake especially among high inequality groups drive awareness campaignsengaging with patient groups, voluntary sectors, and charities.

Responsibilities include ensuring timely information cascade to PCNs, developing and promoting educational sessions for non clinical staff. The role requires close collaboration with the Cancer Alliance, primary care leads, and communications teams.

This role will be hosted in, and also assist with broader NHS Mid and South Essex communications team priorities focused on our patients, staff and wider communities alongside supporting the development of excellent relationships with partners and stakeholders locally, regionally and nationally.

There is a hybrid model of working, which includes attendance at the office in Chelmsford or community visits across Essex and home working.

ROLE PURPOSE / SUMMARY

The Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System comprises the Integrated Care Board (ICB), which is the statutory body for the NHS, and the Integrated Care Partnership (ICP), which is a committee of the ICB, and brings together key health, care, community and voluntary sector organisations across the area.

The ICS has a bold ambition to deliver improved outcomes for our 1.2m population through our four Alliances, and we are placing clinical and professional leadership and the voice of our residents at the heart of realizing this ambition.

This fixed term role is available as an internal secondment until end of March 2026.
