Overview

Are you a visionary leader? We are seeking a new Chief Executive Officer to guide the North Wales Wildlife Trust. The role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure the Trust fulfils its charitable objectives and delivers its mission effectively and sustainably while continuing to grow. Responsibilities include shaping and implementing the strategic plan, managing people and resources, maintaining financial health, and building strong relationships with the membership, other stakeholders, funders, and the wider community. The CEO will be responsible for governance, fundraising, public trust and social impact, and will help the Trust participate actively as a member of the federation of Wildlife Trusts to secure wildlife wins beyond our borders. The role will be hybrid (after a settling-in period) and ideally based in North Wales, with office facilities in Bangor or Aberduna. Regular travel to off-site meetings will be required.

An experienced senior manager with a degree (or degree-equivalent qualification) is sought.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to fulfil the Trust’s charitable objectives and ensure sustainable growth.
  • Shape and implement the strategic plan; manage people and resources; maintain financial health.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with membership, funders, other stakeholders, and the wider community.
  • Oversee governance, fundraising, public trust, and social impact; represent the Trust externally as required.
  • Act as an active member of the federation of Wildlife Trusts to achieve wildlife wins beyond the Trust’s borders.
  • Lead in-house and external partnerships, projects, and programmes to deliver conservation outcomes.
  • Oversee risk management, compliance, and organisational governance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of organisational leadership within a financially accountable organisation, in the charitable, public, or private sector.
  • Proven commercial strategy and business experience, including generating and managing diverse income streams (partnerships, grants, trading, or related activities).
  • Experience with a wide range of stakeholders and partners to achieve programme aims.
  • Strong data and IT abilities.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentational skills.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Solid understanding of environmental issues with knowledge across ecology, conservation, agriculture, fishing, climate change, and other environmental pressures. Welsh language skills are desirable; willingness to learn Welsh and demonstrate commitment to Welsh culture is expected.

Location, Terms and Benefits

  • Hybrid working arrangement after a settling-in period; based in North Wales with offices in Bangor or Aberduna; regular travel to off-site meetings.
  • Discretionary relocation package up to £10,000 (reimbursed against receipts).
  • Discretionary bonus scheme of up to 10% of salary per annum, based on achieving long-term performance targets.
  • 32 days of holiday per year, including statutory Bank Holidays, increasing by one day per full year of service up to a maximum of 38 days.
  • Salary Exchange Pension (6% employer contributions – 6% employee contributions).
  • Life Assurance (2x salary).
  • Learn Welsh on us. Circa £75,000 salary plus relocation package and bonus.
