Organisation

Role purpose

The Chief Operating Officer will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Diocese, with a particular focus on the effective management of property, land, and other physical assets. The COO will ensure that Diocesan operations support the mission of the Church, are financially sustainable, and comply with legal and regulatory requirements. The role is pivotal in safeguarding and enhancing the Diocese’s Mission and the supporting physical estate for current and future generations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across the Diocese, with emphasis on property, land, and physical assets.
  • Ensure diocesan operations are mission-aligned, financially sustainable, and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee core business functions including finance, facilities (including IT), and HR.
  • Support governance activities as the Honorary Secretary to the Diocesan Trust and engage with Trustees' Property, Investment, and Health & Safety Committees as required.
  • Collaborate with the trading subsidiary, project management for school projects, and associated governance structures.

Qualifications and experience

  • Proven experience in senior operations leadership, preferably within a complex charitable or religious organisation.
  • Strong track record in property/estate management, financial management, IT, and HR.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, ensure regulatory compliance, and support organisational mission and strategy.
