Purpose of the Role
As a Civils and Utilities Trainer, you will deliver engaging and industry-relevant training in civils and utilities supporting learners to achieve qualifications and progress into sustainable employment. You will be instrumental in maintaining high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment across our construction and civils programmes.
Hours of Work
Hours of work: 9.00am-5.00pm Mon-Fri
Position Description
- The post holder will deliver sessions to learners of various proficiency adapting the delivery where necessary.
- Design and adapt lesson plans to suit group dynamics and learning objectives.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive classroom environment.
- Use a variety of teaching methods and materials to accommodate different learning styles.
- Monitor and assess learner progress through group activities, assessments, and feedback.
- Encourage peer learning and group interaction to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and learner feedback.
- Support learners in setting and achieving personal learning goals.
- Collaborate with other trainers and support staff to ensure a cohesive learning experience.
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Stay current with teaching methodologies and best practices to deliver excellence
- Adhere to and achieve KPI targets set by management linking to retention, achievement and progressions for existing learners
- Contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the organisation ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of the business
- Contribute to the strategic objectives of the curriculum area and to actively engage in the annual Quality Improvement Plan and audit to drive up quality of delivery
- Ensure all areas of work comply with identified audit requirement

Essential Job Knowledge, Skills, Education & Experience
- Substantial experience in the construction industry, particularly in groundworks or utilities at a management level
- Relevant construction certifications (e.g., NVQs, CITB qualifications, or equivalents).
- Streetworks qualifications. Full operative and supervisor
- Health and Safety site management qualification such as SMSTS, SSSTS
- Strong instructional and communication skills
- Commitment to safety, quality, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for teaching.
- Trainer/Assessors Qualified (desirable or wiling to achieve within the first three months)
- Passionate about teaching and learning and continuous improvement
- Knowledge and proficient use of: Microsoft 365/TEAMS
- Personal qualities of integrity, honesty, transparency, and commitment to ownership of the mission & values of the organisation
- Positive personality – self-motivated, passionate & driven to achieve results
- Excellent communication
- Ability to manage to tight deadlines & conflicting priorities
- Committed to their own CPD
- Ability to work in a logical and organised manner with an attention to detail
